Sky Chasers (developed by pixel art studio Lucky Kat) is yet another mobile game that takes me straight back to the good old days of Game Boy. Retro style games are becoming an even heavier trend within the app gaming world and it’s not something I’m even coming close to complaining about. Yet. However, until then I’m pleased that retro games with pixel graphics have made such a strong comeback. And developers should keep them coming.
It’s crazy to think that back in 1998 we were paying £10-£20 a pop for similar games that we can now get virtually for free on our mobile phones. Sky Chasers doesn’t hold back on game play value as well as style. Think Flappy Bird man-oeuvres but a little more engaging and a little less annoying.
As you fly around in your not-so-stable jet fueled cardboard box through a labyrinth of passages, there are simple puzzles to be solved as well as hazardous creatures and surroundings to avoid.
It’s hard not to play this game since the ads are so minimal and there’s a chance to progress without the need of the ever so popular virtual ‘coins.’
The story and game-play is just as endearing as the pix-elated visuals and is definitely for retro game lovers or those seeking something a little less frustrating.
Sky Chasers is available to download for free on the App Store and Google Play.
