Wieden+Kennedy NYC got in touch shortly after our BAFTA nominated piece, Our World War Interactive went live to create the new Delta safety video.
W+K working alongside Delta Airlines, (who already have a reputation for quirky and attention grabbing videos), wanted a video game “themed” safety video. In addition to a web based game to work in tandem.
With 30 seconds of shot footage, over 500 seconds of full CGI (Working on 23 different plane models) and 8 fully rigged characters, there was going to be plenty to do. Additionally, we managed motion capture, full body-scans, animation teams and performance capture. Oh, and don’t forget the HTML5 game had to run lightning fast with video quality visuals.
The Delta Safety Video was to include cameos from several high profile international sports stars shot on green-screen. W+K asked that we work on the creative with them to facilitate the practical execution on an extremely compressed timescale. Our highly proprietary methodology proved its value smoothly seeing us move step by step through concept, animated storyboard to vertical slice to manage client expectations every step of the journey.
An extremely hectic two-week period took members of our team to NY, Miami, LA and London to 3D body-scan and motion capture all the talent. Fortunately, the assembled team of suppliers, Scanable, Silverspoon NY, Red9 Design and local lads Cubic Motion were on hand to add their expertise. Audio and BTS crews around the globe also helped us realise one of the studio’s most challenging briefs.
After collation of resource data, it was back to the UK for 6 months of intense studio production across 2 times zones to ensure a smooth delivery for the 2016 launch. A special thank-you though goes to W+K who were a pleasure to work alongside, giving us credit and room to work. Even if most of the conference calls were at 1 in the morning!
